Thomas Simmons

Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Thomas Simmons will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 1:00PM at Gordon Church of God In Christ 118 Olive Street - Gordon. Pastor Ernest Whipple will serve as eulogist Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. 

Thomas Simmons, 68, of Gordon, GA, was born May 30, 1958, in Milledgeville, GA. He was born to the late Lonnie and Eula Mae (Adside) Simmons.

Thomas was educated at Wilkinson County High School, McIntyre, GA. and soon after attended Fort Valley State University on a football scholarship. Because of an early unforeseen injury in college, Thomas’ dream of playing professional football never materialized. He returned home and obtained employment as a Laborer for several years with Bloodworth and Mason Pallet Mills, Inc. Thomas was widely respected and deeply loved, known both at home and at work for his remarkable strength and steadfast character.

Later in life, Thomas met his wife, Demetrice Solomon Simmons. They shared a beautiful life together, filled with love, laughter, and joyful moments, before declining health touched them both. She preceded him in death. Thomas exemplified unwavering love, protection, and care as a husband.

His favorite hobbies were playing football, fishing and attending family functions. He especially enjoyed “winning” spade card games. He enjoyed playing checkers, constructing and cooking his famous (big) hamburgers. Known for wearing a black beanie and shades, Thomas’ smile and laughter would light up any room.

Thomas leaves his cherished memories to surviving siblings, brother, Elijah Simmons Sr., and two sisters, Mary Simmons Bell and Elizabeth Simmons Jackson all of Gordon, GA. Thomas was a devoted husband, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
