Rachel Wheeler

Funeral Services for Mrs. Rachel B. Wheeler will be held on Thursday April 28, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at the Springhill CME Church in Gordon, Georgia. Pastor Monica Sams will officiate. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

On October 20, 1950, Eddie Thomas Burney, Sr. and Mary Belle Harris Burney was blessed with a beautiful baby girl.  They name her Rachel Burney.  She was the seventh child to this union. At an early age she joined and received her Christian training from Springhill CME Church.

She received her education from Calhoun Consolidated High School in Wilkinson County, Irwinton, Ga., Class of 1968.  She furthered her education at Georgia College School of Nursing in Milledgeville Ga.

In 1977, she relocated to Newark, NJ.  In her spiritual growth, she became a member of St. James A.M.E. Church where she remained a faithful member until death.

She was married to Leonard Morris Wheeler. She is the mother of four lovely children.

She was employed with Newark Public School System.

God in his infinite wisdom has deemed it wise and best to remove Rachael from our midst and sovereignly called her home to receive her reward on April 20, 2016 at the age of 65 at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, NJ.

Our lovely Rachel was predeceased by her mother and father: Mr. Eddie Thomas Burney, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Belle Harris Burney, three brothers: Mr. Robert Lee Burney, Mr. Kenneth Burney, Sr., and Mr. Eddie Burney, Jr.  Two sisters: Mrs. Ella Thomas and Mrs. Marie Burke.

Rachael leaves to cherish her memories to her four children: Teresa Burney, Leonard M. Wheeler, Jr., Derrick Wheeler, and Nicole Wheeler – all of Newark NJ. Two precious granddaughters: Miss TiJane' Washington and Miss Zy-Asia Wilson – both of Newark NJ. One sister: Mrs. Ida (George) Anderson of Gordon, Ga. One devoted niece/sister: Mrs. Mary Carswell of Newark, NJ. Two Aunts: Ms. Emma Burney of Atlanta, Ga. and Mrs. Juanita Harris of Gordon, Ga. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Family will receive friends at the home of her sister Mrs. Ida (Jack) Anderson at 8900 Asbury Church Road Gordon, Georgia. Mrs. Wheeler will be placed in the sanctuary of Springhill CME Church one hour prior to service. Wilkinson County Memorial Chapel 142 Wriley Road Irwinton, Georgia has charge of arrangements.
