Ollie Cummings

Funeral Services for Mrs. Ollie Inez Cummings 95, of Montrose, will be held on Thursday April 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Randy J. Paschal will officiate. Interment will follow at Red Level Cemetery.

Sister Ollie Inez Cummings was born November 21, 1919  to the parentage of the late Frank and Rebecca C. Knight of Irwinton, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tillman Cummings, five brothers and eight sisters.

She was united in holy wedlock to the late Tillman Cummings in 1952 and made their home in Montrose, Georgia. To this union, two children were born: Karen and Carl. Her teaching career began in Wilkinson County. She later taught in Baldwin and Laurens County. She devoted over 31 years of her life to molding the minds of youth and teaching adult education at night. She was also very active in her church. She was a member of the senior choir and was an adult Sunday school teacher for over 30 years. She also served on the Deaconess Board, Director of the Youth Department, and Director of Vacation Bible School for many years.

She was also a loyal and dedicated worker in the community in which she lived. She was instrumental in the organization of the Millville Citizens United for Progress and the building of the community center. She served as President for nearly 40 years.  Sister Cummings served on the board for Laurens County DFACS. She served in many capacities in the First Rehobeth Baptist Association. Sister Cummings departed this life on April 12, 2015.

She leaves to cherish her memories two children, Mrs. Karen C. (Roy) Rogers of League City, Texas; Mr. Carl N. Cummings of Montrose, Georgia; two grandchildren Bethany (Melvinn) Brown  of Sugarland, Texas;  and Camille Rogers of Monterey, California; one sister, Mrs. Florene (Revon) Billue of Irwinton, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Cummings will be placed in the sanctuary of Calvary Hill Baptist Church one hour prior to the service.

Family will receive friends at the family residence 1877 Watkins Way Montrose,GA.  Wilkinson County Memorial Chapel 142 Wriley Road , Irwinton has charge of arrangements.
