Mother Mary Elizabeth Whipple

Celebration of Life Services for Mother Mary E. Whipple will be on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:00AM at Southern Georgia 2nd Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction COGIC at 2938 Gray Hwy in Macon, Georgia. Pastor Steven G. Whipple, Sr. will serve as eulogist. Interment will follow at the Whipple Family Cemetery.

Mary Lizzie “Elizabeth” Hall Whipple, lovingly known as Mae Lizzie by family and close friends, was born on November 24, 1934, in Wilkinson County, Georgia, to Sam and Anna Butler Hall.She was the youngest of seven children all of whom preceded her in death. Mrs. Whipple’s life was shaped by love, laughter, and the lessons shared within her family. Mrs. Whipple attended public school in Wilkinson County. 

In 1934, Mary Lizzie married the love of her life, Reginald Whipple, Sr. They made their home in Gordon, Georgia. Their union was blessed with thirteen beautiful children. One daughter, Regina Faye, preceded her in death. After their union, Deacon and Mother Whipple left Jordan Stream Baptist Church and became members of the Gordon Church of God in Christ (COGIC). Mother Whipple was a devoted member of the Gordon Church. She was committed to her husband, her children, and her service to the Lord. She stood by her husband of 72 years.She loved her children. Mother Whipple saw to it that her children were well dressed and groomed. She sewed clothes for her daughters as well as her sons. She pressed her daughters’ hair. She prepared wholesome meals for her family where all gathered around the table together. She stressed all her children would complete high school. And they did. 

Faithfully serving her church, she served as President of the Women’s Christian Council and as President of the Mothers’ Board. Whether it was mid-week Bible Study, Sunday School, Friday night tarrying services, Sunday worship services (both morning and nightly services), revivals,district and jurisdictional meetings; Mother Whipple was there.Beyond her service to the church, Mother Whipple supported community efforts. For several years, she worked with the March of Dimes. She attended PTA and did surprise school visits.Mother Whipple simply loved people. She loved not only her children and church members, but she showed sincere concern for her nieces and nephews and the strangers. 

Hearing her Heavenly Father call her name, on September 5, 2026, Mother Mary Whipple gracefully left this earthly realm. 

She was preceded in death by all her siblings and their spouses-- two brothers: Milton and Ernest Hall; and her four sisters: Annie Mae, Betsy May,Eugenia Powell (J. Pat), and Bernice Whipple (James). She was preceded in death by all her in-laws: Annie Mae Houston, Rosie Lee Harvey (Olacee); Dover, Charlie (Lillie), Zeroy (Elvonia),Jimmy Lee (Julia), and James Whipple (Bernice). 

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 72 years and the love of her life,Deacon Reginald Whipple, Sr.; her six daughters: Mary Whipple-Lue, Jannett Veal (Lindsey), Kathie Johnson Wright (John), Pamela Reaves (David), Angelette Whipple, and Rita Clements (Tyrone); six sons: Reginald Jr. (Dorothy), Ernest (Louvenia), Steven (Francenia), Milton (Ronea),Vince (Kimberly), and Ronald (Shunda). She leaves to mourn over 140 (grand, great grand and great, great grandchildren), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held Friday, September 11, 2026, from 10:00AM - 7:00PM at the funeral home.
