Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Melvin "Goat" Boyd will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 11AM. Location - Brundage Mt. Baptist Church. Public Viewing will be on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 1-7PM at Wilkinson County Memorial Chapel.

Bro. Melvin “Goat” Boyd was born on March 29, 1960, in Baldwin County, Georgia, to the late Sis. Lillie Mae Scott Boyd and Bro. John Boyd, Jr. He was raised with strong values of faith, family, and community that remained evident throughout his life. Melvin was a proud graduate of Wilkinson County High School, Class of 1978 and carried the friendships and memories of his school years throughout his life. Following graduation, he joined the Job Corps, where he further developed valuable life and workforce skills that would serve him throughout his adult years. He was previously employed with Mason’s Pallet Mill in McIntyre, Georgia, where he worked diligently and earned the respect and friendship of his coworkers through his strong work ethic and pleasant demeanor.

Affectionately known as “Goat”; Melvin was known for his warm smile, humble spirit, and genuine love for people. He touched countless lives through his kindness, friendship, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Among family and friends, he was fondly remembered as the family’s unofficial driving instructor, teaching many loved ones how to drive a manual transmission (5-speed) vehicle. His patience, encouragement, and sense of humor during those lessons created memories that will be cherished for generations.

Later in life, Melvin accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and became an active and devoted member of Brundage Mount Baptist Church. He faithfully supported the ministry of the church and enjoyed worshipping and fellowshipping with his church family. His quiet spirit, friendly smile, and willingness to assist wherever needed made him a beloved member of the congregation.

Throughout his life, Melvin valued faith, family, and fellowship. He was a familiar and beloved presence whose words of encouragement and acts of kindness brought comfort and joy to many. Whether spending time with loved ones, supporting friends, or participating in community activities, he exemplified a life of compassion and service.

In addition to his parents, Bro. Melvin “Goat” Boyd was preceded in death by his beloved family members: Tammy Boyd, Arthur Lee Boyd, Barbara Boyd, and Donna Boyd. Although their earthly journeys ended before his, their memories remained close to his heart, and we take comfort in knowing they have been reunited in eternal peace.

Bro. Melvin “Goat” Boyd leaves to cherish his memory and honor his legacy: one son, Max Trenton Taylor Henderson; Two grandchildren: Trinity Ambria Henderson and Kennedy Anniston Henderson; his siblings: Alfred Boyd; Wilbur Boyd, James Boyd, Paula Milner, John Carswell (Dwan), LaRodney Carswell; Uncles: Eric Scott (Nita), Willie Scott; Aunts: Everlean Thomas (James), Billie Jean Mingo, Bobbi Nell Smith (Gary), Gloria Dean Jackson, Annie Bell Hillman and Channie Scott. Devoted Niece: Bridget Boyd; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, devoted friends: John Lee Ford, classmates, church family, and loved ones who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.

Though he has departed from our sight, his love, laughter, wisdom, and gentle spirit will remain in our hearts forever. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we rejoice in the memories he leaves behind and in the legacy of love he shared with those around him. His life serves as a reminder that even the simplest acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.

Melvin’s memory will forever be treasured by his family, friends, church family, and all whose lives he touched. While he will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing that he is now resting peacefully in the presence of the Lord.
